30 Years! Wild.

1995 Senior Prom Sandy High School Jennifer Miller in a black dress with date Tom with face covered for privacy

My 1995 Senior Prom. Not sure my date wants his name and face out there on the interwebs so I hid him. All my other high school pictures are in storage. I had posted this one on FB, so I was able to grab it.

Yesterday, Sandy High School’s class of 1995 had our 30 year class reunion. 30 Years! Wild. I’m in Phoenix now and missed it, but I’m OK with that.

I saw some photos from the event and I recognized some of their name on their name tag, but didn’t remember their face, or I remembered their face, but the name didn’t sound familiar. Then there were a few I had no memory of at all. There were a couple I remembered their name before even looking at their tag, but most I needed help with.

In truth, I wasn’t close to anyone in my class. I was a bit of an odd ball. Still am, I guess, but that’s a good thing. I dated one guy almost all through high school and he was a couple grades ahead of me. I spent more time with his friends than my own. My BFF was a grade under me. I had a smattering of others in my life, but none from my grade level.

I went to the 20 year reunion and it was fun enough. I’ll hit the 40 year reunion, which sounds crazy to even contemplate. Didn’t we all just graduate a few years ago?

Me in the Army in like 1997? I was still an E-3 I think, so yeah, 1997. HHC I Corps Motorpool. Fort Lewis, WA.

In the last 30 years I -
Joined the Army as a mechanic.
Married a fellow soldier.
Got out of the Army while my husband stayed in.
Moved to Alaska twice. Oregon once. Washington Twice. Oklahoma once.
Gave birth and raised 2 baby boys, who are now grown and living their lives.
Got an AA in Graphic Design.
Almost a BA in Geology.
A BA in Creative Writing with a minor in Spanish.
Started a photography business and created a lot of beautiful art over the years and continue to do so.
Got amicably divorced.
Started studying in the Modern Mystery School.
Bought and sold a few houses over the years with my now ex-husband.
Sold my last house and used the money to buy a stealth camper van.
Did VanLife for 3.5 seconds before crossing the AZ border and knew I was home, at least for a while.
Officially moved to Phoenix, AZ! Never thought that would happen. The desert?!?! Wild.
Dated a couple of lovely men for a while. (Not at the same time… although they were both named Carlos, which is pretty funny.)
Learned/learning how to watercolor paint and create art with oil pastels.
Have helped many people begin or strengthen their healing journeys.
Learned a lot. Grew a lot. Failed a lot. Learned even more. Succeeded a lot and learned more.

What will the next 10 years hold? Who even knows.

Right now I’m exploring Arizona and rebuilding my foundation and making it stronger. This last year has been big on the Phoenix energy, which is hard to live through, watching everything burn, but the transmutation process always rewards with amazing fruit, so I’m excited to see what I build from here.

I will finish this blog post another time. Time to go to work!
